Terapia de Parejas

Bright living room with brown sofa, green armchair, plants, and white bookshelf.

¿Qué es la terapia de pareja?:

Couples therapy is a form of mental health counseling that helps partners improve communication, strengthen their relationship, and address challenges they are facing together. The focus is on understanding relationship patterns, resolving conflict, and building healthier ways of connecting.

Couples therapy can support partners who are experiencing communication difficulties, trust issues, life transitions, cultural or family stressors, emotional distance, or ongoing conflict. It is also helpful for couples who want to strengthen their relationship, improve problem-solving skills, or prepare for important decisions or transitions.

Depending on how services are provided, couples therapy may focus on the relationship as the client (self-pay) or on one identified primary client when insurance is used, with the partner participating in a supportive role.

The goal of couples therapy is not to assign blame, but to promote understanding, emotional safety, and meaningful change within the relationship.

Couples Therapy: Insurance vs. Self-Pay

We offer couples and family therapy through both insurance-based services and self-pay options, allowing clients to choose the approach that best fits their needs.

When insurance is used, sessions must be billed under one primary client, as required by insurance guidelines. A diagnosis is assigned to that client, treatment must demonstrate medical necessity, and clinical focus remains on that individual’s mental health. Partners or family members participate in a supportive role within the treatment process. Insurance coverage is based solely on the primary client’s benefits and may include limitations or denials.

When services are provided on a self-pay basis, therapy centers on the relationship or family system as the client. This model allows for greater flexibility, collaborative goals, and a relational focus, without requiring a diagnosis tied to one individual unless clinically indicated.

Both options are clinically sound. Understanding the benefits and limitations of each allows you to make an informed decision about your care. Our team is happy to help you explore which option best aligns with your goals.
