Hi, I’m Carla,I’m a proud first-generation Mexican American therapist born and raised in Denver, Colorado, deeply connected to the Latinx community. Growing up navigating multiple cultural identities taught me the importance of empathy, resilience, and connection — values that shape my work every day. My goal as a therapist is to provide culturally sensitive, bilingual, and trauma-informed therapy that helps individuals and families heal and thrive.
Since beginning my career in Social Work in 2018, I’ve dedicated myself to supporting children, adults, and families through life’s transitions and emotional challenges. After earning my Bachelor’s in Social Work, I advocated for families and individuals with disabilities. I went on to complete a Master’s in Forensic Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University (2020) and a Master’s in Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver (2021). My clinical experience includes working with families affected by domestic violence, trauma, and addiction recovery.
In 2023, I began my role as a therapist at El Consultorio PLLC, where I continue to expand my clinical expertise as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful, evidence-based approach that supports healing from trauma and helps reduce distressing emotional and physical symptoms associated with painful experiences.
My therapeutic style is collaborative, empowering, and strengths-based. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. I am passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families, helping them navigate parent-child conflicts, emotional regulation, and family communication, while fostering secure attachments and trust.
I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including EMDR Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, attachment-based interventions, and solution-focused therapy. These approaches allow me to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs, promoting emotional healing, self-awareness, and lasting change.
My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, behavioral challenges, relationship and family dynamics, and trauma recovery.
Outside of therapy, I love spending time with my family and pets, exploring the outdoors, and embracing my cultural roots. These personal experiences inspire me to approach therapy with authenticity, compassion, and cultural humility — values at the heart of El Consultorio PLLC’s mission to provide bilingual, bicultural mental health services for the Latinx community in Colorado.
